Its direct economic impact is greater than $8 billion per annum while extracting the indirect impacts from Alberta's productivity gains in the past decade using the methods in the productivity studies of our countries shows that Alberta's ICT sector today drives up to 15% of Alberta's GDP, making it larger than forestry and third only to energy and agriculture.

Alberta's ICT Enables Innovation

By Sector, ICT companies are among the largest spenders on industrial research and development, the ingredient critical to future product innovation and sustained competitiveness. Public sector spending on innovation in ICT has resulted in a new national center on geomatics at the University of Calgary and has seen the Alberta Ingenuity Center for Machine Learning at the University of Alberta recognized as one of the top centers of its kind in the world in a recent international peer review.
